First Visit With Dr. Scott L. Weinstein

Before their appointment, Dr. Scott L. Weinstein, our pediatric dentist, will go over your child’s medical history. Also, both you and your child are welcome to take a tour of the office. This will be the most fun dental office you have ever seen, but sorry Mom and Dad, it is just for kids.

  • The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that your child be evaluated by their first birthday. Dr. Weinstein will examine their entire mouth, discuss your child’s hygiene, and is available to answer any questions that you may have.
  • We have free high-speed WiFi available. You can get the password from the desk. Please do not bring food or beverages to the computer or to kids’ play areas.
  • We have 2 ps5s and tons of games. There are also TVs and DVDs for the children to enjoy. Please request the controllers and video games from the front desk. We also have appropriate books, learning toys, dolls, and stuffed animals. There are TVs in the ceiling above every dental chair.

  • Before your child’s appointment, always speak positively about an upcoming or previous dental experience. We will carefully explain our procedures in child-friendly terms and follow the motto of Tell-Show-Do.
  • In preparing your child for their first visit, please avoid using words like, “shot,” “pain,” “pull” or “hurt” when speaking with your child. Even if you are trying to say that something will not “hurt” the word itself may frighten your child.
  • Also, we do not recommend scheduling your child’s dental visit right after they receive shots or vaccinations at their physician’s office. While we realize that this may be convenient with your schedule, our primary goal is for your child to have a positive dental experience that can remember for life.
  • Some young children may cry during an examination or during a procedure. Please keep in mind that while we try to give your child a great experience, some children may react this way. It is important that your child sees that you are confident in Dr. Weinstein and our office at Ballantyne Pediatric Dentistry. If your child sees fear and anxiety in their own parent’s face, they will react similarly.
  • Please supervise your children at all times when they are not in the treatment area.
  • If your child is over the age of 6, we recommend you let your child come back on their own. Children under the age of 6 typically do better at morning appointments. It can be difficult for a young child to handle a dental visit around naptime or later in the day. We realize that it can be difficult for your schedule, but this is in your child’s best interest.
